What a day we all had today! Still slightly jetlagged but I think it’s safe to say we are all enjoying the experience – I know I am! Day two called for a little more walking around London, starting off with a guided tour through the city.
We stopped by the Monument of the Great Fire of London, a massive column built in the 1600s out of stone (WOW) to celebrate the rebuilding of the city after the fires, and how amazing that it survived the catastrophe of WW2 as well. We then continued to the Tower Hill Garden and the Tower (or towers) of London, this was really fascinating – the amount of history within that castle was incredible!
We all watched a short video that showed the work of a sculpture artist who in 2014 created 888,246 ceramic poppies that filled the moat of the castle, in honour of each individual British Military fatality during the war. Personally, I found this incredibly moving – it really put into perspective the amount of lives lost and that each fatality was a person, not just a number.
Next, we walked past the Tower Bridge and caught a river taxi under thee London Bridge, continuing to Nelson’s Column, Trafalgar Square and the crypt below the church.
We all spent some time at Leicester Square at a small Christmas market with some of us heading to the LEGO store and M&M world, although I didn’t get to go there myself, I heard they were massive!
May I add, the lights hung in some of the streets around this area we’re so stunning, everything was lit up by them.
Day two finished with dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and our first ride in a double-decker bus which was pretty awesome. I cannot wait for day three!!!
Check back in soon, Sienna
