Only a day to go! Soon the group will be enjoying the sights and sounds of London, including The Tower of London, Harry Potter studio and Mama Mia in the West End. Then the cemeteries and memorials of Flanders Field and the Somme.
All students have researched a soldier and the graves or memorials of those soldiers [see here] will all be visited with students reading eulogies or WW1 poems, and leaving a commemorative A4 poster. Three students will also represent the school by laying a wreath at the Menin Gate ceremony.
During our stay on the Somme, in Amiens, the students will also visit a French school, Lycée la Providence , where they will participate in a class and enjoy a traditional 4 course French school lunch!! We may also try to teach them the ways of AFL.
Then the D-Day beaches and, finally Paris, the Louvre and Euro Disney!!
We have a very excited group of 17 students who are looking forward to the experience of their comparatively young lives. I am confident that they will not only enjoy the tour but also gain a better understanding and awareness of the sacrifices made by Australian men and women during WW1.
